Mammoth Major Shell BP The Mammoth Major Mark V was introduced in 1958 by A.E.C. to replace the trusty mark III (there was never a mark IV) and featured many new features including more powerful engines, new cab, improved brakes on all four axles (previously the second steering axle was unbreaked!), a choice of rear suspension (two leaf fully articulated or four leaf) and better weight distribution by setting back the front axles. The striking yellow and white livery of Shell/BP was introduced in the early sixties and was well ahead of its time when liveries tended to be more conservative. |
