Scammell 6x2 The rigid Scammell six-wheeler of the early thirties was originally chain driven and petrol engined with a dashboard mounted fuel tank. Later models like this box van of the Post Office Supplies Dept. had a live bevel drive axle and conventionally placed fuel tank that now held diesel oil for the Gardner 6LW engine. They had air-brakes and a six-speed constant mesh gearbox and some lasted well into the fifties on long distance haulage. |
