AEC Mammoth Major MkII
Hudsons Coal had quite a fleet of lorries in the 1930s among which was this AEC Mammoth Major Mk II eight-wheeler tipper seen here being loaded at a London dock-side. At this time AEC’s reputation was a little tarnished because of problems with their indirect-injection 7.7 diesel engine which compared unfavourably with the Leyland and especially Gardner direct-injection diesels but later modifications gave AEC the edge.
