AEC MkV Eight-wheeler

AEC MkV Eight-wheeler

At the 1958 Commercial Motor Show AEC debuted their new Mk V eight-wheeler to replace their market leader Mk III [for some unknown reason there was never a Mk IV].

The MkV had many improvements over its predecessors with new engines, new cab, set back front axles, improved brakes and a new rear bogie, but the old MkIII continued to sell alongside its new stablemate for a further 18 months or so until production of these famous models ceased in 1960.

British Road Services were big AEC users and many MkVs were purchased and this fine example is seen at their Cardiff depot sometime in the mid-sixties loaded with giant reels of telephone cable.
